Disabled World Series of Poker Player Puts Best Foot Forward
JULY 12, 2005, LAS VEGAS, NV -- William Rockwell loves to play poker and doesn?t let his disability stop him from doing it. Without the use of his arms, Rockwell uses his feet to hold his cards. This incredible display of dexterity and determination has earned him the respect and admiration of everyone that has played with him or watched him in action.
Internet casino GoldenPalace.com ensured that Rockwell got the opportunity of a lifetime for any poker player--to compete in the world?s biggest poker tournament, the World Series Of Poker in Las Vegas. The popular Internet casino put up the entry fee of $10,000 so Rockwell could live his dream and play for the most coveted title in poker.
Rockwell did well against the world?s best players, making the cut on Friday into round two of the tournament. Rockwell had the added bonus of playing next to professional poker player Kathy Liebert and ?Boston? Rob Mariano from TV?s Survivor and The Amazing Race.
?When the opportunity to sponsor William came up we didn?t hesitate,? said GoldenPalace.com CEO Richard Rowe. ?Not only is he a great poker player, but his courage and strength continue to amaze and inspire us. We are extremely proud to have sponsored him and commend him on a great performance.?
A 31-year-old San Diego native and victim of a 1990 motorcycle accident that deprived him of the use of his arms, Rockwell earned national media attention in 1997 by qualifying for the finals of the World Putting Championships. Rockwell, using only his bare feet to putt, was one of only 300 who qualified to compete against Tour professionals and amateurs alike for the title of World?s Best Putter.
Setting the standard in marketing creativity, GoldenPalace.com has devised some of the most exciting and outrageous advertising campaigns in the past few years. Recently, items such as the Virgin Mary Grilled Cheese Sandwich, Britney Spears? Pregnancy Test, and Pope Benedict XVI?s previously-owned VW Golf have garnered extensive worldwide media attention for the casino.
